Trailway 2010 Hike Series

The first hike of the year kicked off on Sunday. Birding experts Rick and Kim Brown took part, and pointed out dozens of interesting birds, and shared facts about their nesting habits, behaviours, and songs and calls.  Really fascinating.

Here's the list of the birds encountered on the trail.

American Crow
Killdeer
Brown-headed Cowbird
Red-winged Blackbird
Baltimore Oriole - only Kim and I
Yellow-rumped Warbler
American Goldfinch
Northern Cardinal
Song Sparrow
Eastern Phoebe
Tree Swallow
Barn Swallow
Bob-o-link
White-breasted Nuthatch - only Kim and I
Ring-billed Gull
European Starling
Black-capped Chickadee
Northern Rough-winged Swallow

There are going to be more Trailway hikes this year, one every month.  They all have different "themes" so even though they will follow the same route, they will all be different.  For more info, take a look at the Trailway website.  Next hike is June 6, and for other dates see this calendar.
